2308314) Calcite with Copper - Quincy Mine, Hancock, Houghton Co., Michigan, USA Size: 3.2 x 2.4 x 2.4 cm (miniature) Price: $ 300
A single terminated glassy scalenohedral calcite crystal is set with a minor amount of copper rich matrix. The crystal is included quite richly with reddish/copper inclusions of native copper. Very slight cleaving is present at the crystal termination, so typical of these. Overall I think in good condition damage-wise. Measures 3.2 x 2.4 x 2.4 cm in size overall. Ex David Brandon collection. C2485319) Copper - Central Mine, Central, Keweenaw Co., Michigan, USA Size: 18.1 x 8.1 x 8.0 cm (cabinet) Price: $ 12000
The Central Mine in Michigan was organized in 1854, and has the distinction of being the first mine in the district to actually make a profit. Work ceased at this mine in 1898. During its lifespan the mine produced many, many fine mineral specimens. The cabinet piece shown here is outstanding. Well defined and formed crystals of native copper to 3.1 cm in size are arranged very aesthetically over a native copper matrix. The piece is crystallized all around. There is no damage and the specimen sits perfectly for display by itself. The patina is wonderful. Good cabinet sized classics such as this are always, and will always be, in high demand.
