B9507391) Barite - Dalmellington Mine, Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England, UK Size: 4 x 2.8 x 9.2 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 350
A very choice well crystallized old-time British specimen! The specimen consists of brown slightly translucent crystals of prismatic barite set on a small amount of matrix. The terminations are "brush-like", classic for this mining district. Measures 4 x 2.8 x 9.2 cm in size overall and is completely crystallized all around 360 degrees. Very clean of damage for one of these! Ex Gene Tribbey collection #5891. 1041317) Barite - Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 10.0 x 2.4 x 2.4 cm (cabinet) Price: $ 3750 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
A wonderful long tapering grouping of glassy terminated partly gemmy barite crystals measuring 10.0 x 2.4 x 2.4 cm. The crystals show good transparency near the terminations. Complete all around as seen in the photos. Only with a 10x loupe can find tiny insignificant chipping near the termination on the back side of the specimen. To my naked eye this is completely damage-free. An excllent British classic! Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). B1020081) Barite with Calcite - Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 8.5 x 8.0 x 6.0 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 2500 ex. Dawn and Jim Minette
A superb transparent gemmy pale bluish to greenish grouping of tabular terminated barite crystals measuring to 4.9 cm in height are set aesthetically upon a 8.5 x 8.0 x 6.0 cm mounded matrix covered by tiny sparkling colorless calcite crystals. With a 10x loupe I can find tiny and very minimal chipping on some of the crystal edges; to my naked eye this is damage-free as seen in the photos. Sits nicely for display; the barite is free-standing from the matrix and complete all around 360 degrees. The quality is excellent for this old-time classic. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #WW081. Comes with label from the 2002 special exhibit at the East Coast Gem and Mineral Show. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). 1310018) Barite with Dolomite - Cleator Moor, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 10.0 x 5.4 x 3.3 cm (cabinet) Price: $ 1200
The iron mines of Cumbria are well known to mineral collectors for their fine minerals. Long closed, these are now "classics" and highly sought after. The barite from this area are some of the finest examples known for the species. The example above, from the collection of Ernie Schlichter, consists of lustrous pale bluish-gray doubly terminated crystals of barite inter-grown with dolomite breccia chip matrix. The specimen measures 10.0 x 5.4 x 3.3 cm in size overall and is complete all around as seen in the lower photos. There are several old numbers, as well as the locality designation. Overall in very good condition damage-wise. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). 1041322) Barite with Dolomite - Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 4.4 x 4.0 x 2.8 cm (miniature) Price: $ 1350 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
Superb glassy partly transparent and gemmy blue barite crystal measuring 4.2 x 3.8 x 1.4 cm perched attractively upon a shard of dolomite coated matrix. Complete all around and in excellent condition damage-wise. An excellent miniature of high quality for one of these British classic. Some red hematite inclusions are present. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Size: 4.4 x 4.0 x 2.8 cm. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). 3700587) Barite with Dolomite - Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 12.3 x 8.0 x 7.0 cm (cabinet) Price: $ 12500 ex. Steve Neely collection
A superb large lustrous translucent bluish-green crystal grouping of barite measuring 12.3 cm across is set on a crystalline dolomite matrix with other smaller barite crystals. Shows nicely all around 360 degrees. One tiny chip is present on the back right corner of the main crystal; this on the back of the piece and does not show when the piece is displayed. Overall I think this in outstanding condition for a British barite. Very aesthetic; measures 12.3 x 8.0 x 7.0 cm in size overall. Ex Steve Neely collection; prior to Steve this was part of the Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). B1020074) Barite with Pyrite - Frizington, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 15.5 x 11.5 x 7.1 cm (large cabinet) Price: $ 3000 ex. Dawn and Jim Minette
Large bluish-gray lustrous translucent tabular crystals of barite to almost 6.0 cm on edge forming an aesthetic 15.5 x 11.5 x 7.1 cm cluster with little matrix. The barite crystals are richly sprinkled with attractive sparkling micro crystals of pyrite. Minor rubbing and chipping is present on some crystal edges, the extent seen in the photographs. Considering the age and size of the piece, I feel that it is in very good condition damage-wise. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #WW074 with data card. The specimen was part of the special Memorial Exhibit at the 2002 East Coast Gem and Mineral Show and comes with a label for such. A fine old British classic! Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). B2945202) Bornite - Redruth, Cornwall, England, UK Size: 7.9 x 4.4 x 2.4 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 425
Until the recent finds of bornite to surface in Kazakhstan, the world's best examples of this species were known to come from Cornwall. The example shown here is quite good, consisting of a 7.9 x 4.4 x 2.4 cm matrix, the top completely covered by slightly iridescent bornite crystals measuring to 0.3 cm in size. Overall in very good condition damage-wise. This is a fine old Cornish classic. Ref: Embrey and Symes, Minerals of Cornwall and Devon (1987). 1065100) Bornite - Tincroft Mine, Carn Brea area, Cornwall, England, UK Size: 9.7 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm (cabinet) Price: $ 425 ex. Steve Pullman collection
Rich slightly iridescent metallic micro crystals of bornite are covering the top of this 9.7 x 5.8 x 4.5 cm matrix. No damage. An excellent well crystallized cabinet piece for this species. Ex Steve Pullman collection. Previous labels from Burminco in California and the Jack Parnau collection. Ref: Embrey and Symes, Minerals of Cornwall and Devon (1987). C3719) Calcite - Bigrigg Mine, Bigrigg, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England, UK Size: 6.5 x 5.3 x 3.4 cm (miniature) Price: $ 1000
Beautiful glassy water clear scalenohedral crystals of calcite to 2.8 cm in length are set upon a limonitic matrix. The crystals are glassy and of top quality. The two prominent crystals actually touch at their respective terminations, forming a sort of inverted "V". All of the crystals present are very clean of damage; one area on an edge of the vug shows crystals that are comletely missing from the matrix up. Overall I think this is superb for one of these old British classics. Comes with an old label. WW067) Calcite - Bigrigg Mine, Bigrigg, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England, UK Size: 7 x 6.8 x 6.9 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 4500 ex. Dawn and Jim Minette
The iron mines of Cumbria have been long known to have produced some of the world's most beautiful calcite specimens. The best of these were produced in the late 1800's, early 1900's. The Bigrigg Mine was one of the most noted producers of fine calcite. The example shown here is outstanding and very pretty. Highly lustrous water clear transparent prismatic crystals of calcite to 3.9 cm in length are coming nicely off a common matrix. I can find two "pinpoint" tiny blemishes on the piece; one has to look very closely to find these. Overall, considering what this is, I think it in outstanding shape damage-wise. Measures 7 x 6.8 x 6.9 cm in size overall. The quality is excellent. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection #WW067 with data card. Also comes with a previous label from the Chicago Natural History Museum. The specimen was originally part of the display by Ward's Natural Science Establishment at the 1893 World's Columbian Exposition in Chicago. The museum acquired the entire exhibit from Ward's after the exposition. Another previous label showing that this specimen was part of the special exhibit at the 2002 East Coast Gem and Mineral Show in Springfield, Mass. C1020077) Calcite - Egremont, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 4.7 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm (miniature) Price: $ 350 ex. Dawn and Jim Minette
A very choice water clear colorless gemmy transparent prismatic single terminated matrix-less calcite crystal measuring 4.7 x 1.3 x 1.2 cm in size. Complete all around. Very tiny chipping is sparse but present on the termination faces; this is visible in the photos. A neat large crystal from this classic mining district. Ex Dawn and Jim Minette collection. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). 1041400) Calcite - Egremont, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 6.6 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 1000 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
A wonderful water clear lustrous colorless single terminated prismatic calcite crystal measuring 6.6 x 1.7 x 1.3 cm in size. Like a crystal model for the species. Complete all around and very clean of damage. Neat British classic! Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). 1041388) Calcite - Egremont, West Cumberland Iron Field, Cumbria, England, UK Size: 5.2 x 4.6 x 4.5 cm (miniature) Price: $ 2200 ex. Lloyd Tate Collection
A wonderful classic British calcite specimen consisting of a twinned gemmy colorless glassy lustrous grouping measuring 5.2 x 4.6 x 4.5 cm in size overall. The twin planes are very obvious. Neat with several non-twinned crystals present as well. Complete all around; the only damage that I can find is on the back side of the piece and that being one of the non-twinned crystals cleaved at a termination. This is hard to detect. Overall in great condition. A very choice British classic. Ex Lloyd Tate collection. Ref: Symes & Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008). C2485321) Calcite - Egremont, West Cumberland Iron Field, North and Western Region (Cumberland), Cumbria, England, UK Size: 9.3 x 8.2 x 4.5 cm (small cabinet) Price: $ 325
Choice colorless translucent scalenohedral crystals of calcite to 1.5 cm in length aesthetically covering a hematite matrix. Very minor cleaving is present, but overall this is in excellent condition for one of these "old-timers". Came to me labeled as "Egremont"; very well could be from the Stank Mine in Lancashire. Size: 9.3 x 8.2 x 4.5 cm. Ref: Symes and Young, Minerals of Northern England (2008).
