Since 2002 the mineral market has seen a large quantity of attractive azurite specimens from this locality in China. Most specimens consist of druses of micro azurite crystals associated with malachite. At times discernible crystals have been seen, usually measuring to about 1.0 cm in smaller specimens. The large cabinet example shown here is outstanding. Sharp lustrous deep blue sharply formed crystals of azurite to almost 2.0 cm in size are richly scattered over a 16.0 x 12.0 x 7.0 cm matrix. Small crude crystals of cuprite, these coated by green malachite, are present as well. There is no damage. The association with malachite/cuprite is somewhat reminiscent of the old Copper Queen Mine, Bisbee, Arizona specimens. In terms of crystal size, luster, perfection and size this is an exceptional Chinese azurite specimen.
